Trail Overview

This trail is a simple, scenic connector that starts in the large open clearing of the north section and guides you directly into the wooded trail network. The entrance is easy to spot as twin tracks leading into the tree line, gradually narrowing as you transition from open field to shaded single-lane path. The terrain is mostly flat dirt with light ruts and scattered branches, but no major obstacles or technical challenges. It's a calm, easy drive meant for access rather than difficulty, perfect for beginners or anyone exploring deeper into the park. Expect light overgrowth and gentle curves, but nothing that requires four-wheel drive beyond basic traction.

Difficulty

This is an easy connector trail with no significant obstacles, but it narrows as it enters the tree line. Drivers may encounter light ruts, fallen branches, and mild overgrowth, especially after rain, but nothing requires advanced equipment. The trail is suitable for stock 4WD vehicles and is mainly used to access the wooded trail network. Paint-conscious drivers should be aware of brush contact along the edges.

History

This park was formerly known as Sandy Bottoms, and longtime visitors may still refer to it by that name. The access road and staging area have evolved over time, but it remains a well-known local spot for off-road events and community rides.

Access Description

From Highway K-15 in Mulvane, head toward North 2nd Avenue and turn there, following it for a short distance before turning onto East English Street. Continue until you reach North 1st Avenue and turn left, staying on this road as it leaves the neighborhood and shifts from pavement to gravel. Follow North 1st Avenue straight out of town, crossing the active railroad tracks. Once over the tracks, remain on the gravel lane and continue forward until you reach the main park gate, formerly known as Sandy Bottoms.
