Trail Overview

North Sulfur-Sulfur Johnson #5244 is an intermediate ATV trail that begins on the south end in wide open meadows along rolling hillsides, on a dry, dusty path. In the beginning, the trail alternates between open areas and more forested sections with pine and aspen groves, and features light surface elements like small loose rock and roots. A moderate rocky loose climb leads up to a ridgeline with rockier terrain and expansive views. After topping out, the trail drops down a steep slope filled with loose dirt and big loose rocks, which is the hardest part of the trail and will likely be a good challenge for less experienced riders. After the descent, the route turns north into the woods and transitions into a road designation. The exit road is steep, extremely rain-rutted, and rocky, eventually leading back to Wood Canyon Road. The trail is a bit harder in the north-to-south direction when having to go back up the loose climb. You have to maintain a lot of momentum to get good traction on the climb.
