Trail Overview

Market Canal Road is a simple trail that takes you through the sagebrush just west of the Menan Butte. The trail is wide and mostly flat with sections of lava rock and sand but offers several obstacles along the way for more of a challenge. This is a great location to enjoy in the evening as the sunsets are beautiful and cottontails and jackrabbits can be seen. This has become a very popular destination, so keep an eye out for other people enjoying the area. As you get to the end, you will come to a canal with a gate that restricts motorized vehicles. You will need to walk the last 200 yards to get to the Snake River. Remember to pack water and download offline maps as cell phone reception is limited. Please remember to pack out all your garbage as littering has become far too common in the desert.

Difficulty

The main trail is easy for any 4x4 and some AWD vehicles in the summer with plenty of room for oncoming traffic. The trail is also open during the winter but may be difficult due to snowfall. Plan accordingly.
