Trail Overview
Jump Off Peak is best accessed through wood canyon, by way of Arco. Wood Canyon itself is fairly tight and narrow, but once you reach the cutoff to the peak you will be on top of the ridge and exposed. If there is snow, it will be drifted deep in the road. The road is mostly dirt-based with some rocky areas, and there are no major obstacles to overcome. The peak is a great vantage point (along with nearby Howe Peak) to view the desert below and the INL. Look for fossils near the peak, as there are many fossilized sea creatures embedded in the rock as this area used to once be underwater. There are many other neat geological features in the area to be seen such as a large geological fold and a natural arch.

Difficulty
You will need a rig capable of reaching the ridge from the wood canyon side, although the trail to the peak itself is not very difficult you will need low range 4x4 and aired down. I would not recommend large, 4-door pickups to attempt this trail due to sharp corners and trees.
History
There is a natural arch and large geological fold, as well as many fossilized sea creatures in the shale rock.
