Trail Overview
Tom Coward Gap is a narrow one-lane trail that runs through Chattahoochee National Forest. This is a short but fun trail with some obstacles that can make it challenging. The surface is natural with mud holes that are solid bottom up to 12 inches deep. There are a few small water crossings that are less than 6 inches deep, but could increase with heavy rains. There are some off-camber sections with ruts up to 18 inches. Some banks had me at 22 degrees roll. I was able to do most of it in 2WD with a 3-inch lift and 37s, but I had to put it in 4WD for some of the rock obstacles. The trail is obstructed 1.2 miles up from a downed tree, but could extend another 0.35 miles if cleared. This trail runs through a private 5-acre parcel of land, but it is a right-of-way passage, so please be respectful and stay on the trail through this section. There is a fairly large creekside campsite towards the beginning of the trail. Cell service is nonexistent, so please plan accordingly.
