Trail Overview
Spencer Road (FS 4D) is a natural, single-lane trail with scattered portions of gravel and clay. The trail winds along thick hardwoods, ravines, and encircles a mountain peak at an elevation of 2400 feet. There is a small, beautiful waterfall about halfway along the trail and an abundance of wildlife to see. Deer, quail, and turkey were spotted in several areas. There were downed trees that were cleared, and a recent trail repair with gravel from a washout. Some trees created a low overhead clearance. Cell service was moderate throughout. FS-4D offers several beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Expect some slippery portions following any amount of rainfall due to the Georgia clay. FS-4D is located within the Chattahoochee National Forest and terminates at a locked gate at private property. There is a spur trail near the gate that was also blocked with a downed tree. There is a small area to turn around near the gate. A legally licensed vehicle is required. Contact the Blue Ridge Rangers District at 706-970-9776 for questions.
