Trail Overview
The trail begins as a graded gravel road with gentle curves and enough width for two vehicles to pass in most areas, with the entrance clearly marked by an FS 1001 sign. This section continues to a large turnaround capable of accommodating trailers, making it a convenient staging or regrouping point. Beyond the turnaround, the trail narrows significantly and transitions into a more technical segment beginning with a short hill climb. Vegetation tightens along both sides of the corridor, increasing the likelihood of moderate pinstriping, and 4x4 is recommended from this point forward. The surface shifts from gravel to red clay and dirt, with light ruts and uneven terrain where seasonal mud may be present after rainfall. Several short red clay hill climbs add mild technical interest but remain manageable for properly equipped high-clearance vehicles. The extended route is currently unfinished and ends at a location with limited space requiring a multi-point turn to exit. Cell service is limited to none, and passing opportunities become scarce beyond the turnaround, though vehicle traffic is typically light. Along the route, drivers may notice a historic stone chimney remnant off the trail and travel through a quiet mixed pine and hardwood forest environment.
