Trail Overview
Racepath is a dirt road heading up close to a couple of mountain peaks with beautiful scenery along the way, and the potential for a couple of dispersed leave-no-trace campsites. This is mostly a shelf dirt road overlooking a pretty valley on one side and a steep mountainside on the other. There are patches of gravel, but mostly dirt, with several decent-sized washouts leading to the rating, though high-clearance shouldn't be needed for any of them. There are a few sections, generally in switchbacks, where two full-size vehicles could pass, but otherwise mostly one vehicle width. There is a tendency to have trees or limbs down, and as of writing, there is a very large pine that has cleared just enough to get by with a full-width vehicle - but you will gain some pinestripes; if I might be so punny. Elsewhere on the trail, narrow areas of growth will lead to pinstripes, pine or not. There are a couple of mud holes, but nothing compared to the depth and amount of mud holes on the nearby Timpson Creek trail. There are a couple of spurs, but they are NOT on the Forest Service's Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) as legal travel routes.
