Trail Overview

Off the Flat Tops Scenic Byway is a fun detour to the Transfer Trailhead. It is a 2-track trail that meanders through the trees, passing several awesome dispersed camping spots. The trail is not difficult, but seasonal washes and rutted rocky areas could pose a problem for lower clearance vehicles. During the springtime time this includes a 16-inch deep mud pit where water collects in a low spot with a few surprise rocks that are not visible. The trailhead has a circle turnaround and plenty of parking for this very lightly used area of forest.

The trail for most of the season would be a 2; however, in the springtime time the mud hole could be rated higher because of its depth and rocky mud bottom.
