Trail Overview

Penrose Commons OHV Trail# 6102A is the trail that overlooks a narrow valley where the famous Patriot trails traverse (Independence Trail, Patriot Trail, and Liberty Trail). Although this trail connects the well-known extreme 4x4 trail, 6102A is a moderate trail consisting of mostly rocks and surrounded by pinon and juniper trees that can be narrow in some sections due to overgrown tree branches, risking some light pinstriping. Enjoy panoramic views including the Sangre De Cristo Mountain range. Penrose Commons offers dispersed camping, vault toilets, decent cell service, and a spacious staging area at the trailhead. The trails are also used for ATVs, dirt bikes, and horseback riding. It's open year-round but is subject to closure during wet weather conditions.
