Trail Overview

Outer Wide Open makes a loop off of Tenderfoot Mountain Trail with BB Trail. It's a newly constructed single track in the trail system, and is very similar in style and difficulty to the rest of the trails in the area. It curves through the pine trees, with gradual switchbacks, big wide turns through the trees, and a very smooth surface with hardly any rocks. There's a couple embedded rocks, or loose rock on the surface here and there, but not often enough to make the trail more difficult. The most unique part of this trail is when it rides over a long narrow wooden bridge over a marshy meadow. It's skinny and made of two wood planks. The trail follows the edge of the mountain as it keeps switchbacking up, with a couple narrower spots that are a bit shelfy. It ends at a summit with an overlook over Dillon Reservoir, at the intersection with BB, which will take you even farther up to Tenderfoot Mountain Trail. This trail is open 6/21 - 10/9 to motorized use.

Difficulty

This is an easy dirt bike trail that is made up of tons of switchbacks, but they are all gradual, smooth, and wide. The trails have a couple of harder spots where it gets narrow and shelfy. Overall, it's still very easy, with no rocks or obstacles.

Access Description

The Tenderfoot Mountain Trail System is full of easy singletracks that are all very similar, fast, and flowy. The main motorized trailhead is on County Landfill Road off Highway 6. As the road turns into Frey Gulch Road there is a dirt parking lot. There's also a small parking lot near the north end of the Tenderfoot Mountain Trail off of County Road 51, but it's more of a parking lot for the hiking trails, so it will likely be busy and isn't good for trailers. The area is very well marked and maintained, with new trails still being constructed. It's a multi-use popular area, so you will see lots of hikers and mountain bikers. This area was built from your Colorado OHV dollars.
