Trail Overview

BLM Road #8334 is not challenging in itself, but presents great views. There are many spurs with plenty of space for camping. Each spur leads to a great view of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and towns. Wild flowers are in full bloom during the spring. The road that travels west along the ridge leads to a great view of Basalt.

Difficulty

The road surface is mostly softball-sized rocks. The north side of the ridge is slightly overgrown and will pinstripe your vehicle. 12-18" ruts may be present if the trail was recently wet. 15 degree grades are frequent.

Easy my ass! I would say more moderate. It was very steep in a few areas and very rocky and uneven. Foliage overgrown in middle scraped top and sides of Jeep. And a few sharp turns. Only a couple of places large enough to stop or pull over to side. Saw a couple of hikers and a dirt bike. Trail was more appropriate for them than a four door Jeep.

Access Description

There are at least three legal entry points for this road. The trail is closed for motorized use from Dec 1 - April 15.
