Trail Overview
The Hot Creek Trail in the Rio Grande National Forest starts out in terrain with more of a desert feel with red slab-style rock. It gets into the pine trees and turns into a fast and flowy trail for large sections at a time. It gets wider in sections where there are lots of downed logs and there are multiple lines. It has fast sections through the tall aspens that feel like you are riding through a tree tunnel. This trail doesn't have anything super crazy or difficult, but still has some challenging bits with small boulders embedded in the trail. Riding east to west, the trails gain 2,200 feet and lose 700 feet over 6 miles. The trail ends at the intersection with Willow Mountain, which you can take to connect to several other single tracks or take into the tiny town of Platoro.
