Trail Overview

The north end of the Cathedral trail starts off the Baughman Creek Road at a pinch point and climbs up the mountain already with a lot of big embedded rocks and roots. It has tight switchbacks through the trees as it climbs up for a half mile, then descends back down for the entire rest of the trail from north to south. There are a lot of steep spots during the descent, plus embedded rock ledges, and more tight loose switchbacks. It drops down the creek drainage to a couple of easy stream crossings, parallels the creek, and keeps descending down the mountain, with more embedded big boulders that you drop off of, and shelfy rocky narrow sections. It mellows out near the south end, just weaving through the forest. There's a longer creek crossing at the south end right before the trailhead.
