Trail Overview

Originating off Mitchell Road, BLM 125 is a narrow, scenic dirt track that guides explorers southward across the open, sun-drenched desert. As you traverse the sprawling landscape, you are treated to magnificent, unobstructed 360-degree views, with the faint silhouette of the nearest town resting quietly on the distant horizon. Along the entire 4.3-mile journey, the path is flanked by numerous flat, highly accessible clearings that serve as perfect dispersed camping spots nestled among the desert scrub. About halfway through, the unmaintained dirt becomes noticeably more uneven, requiring attentive driving. Since this is an active multi-use area, always remain alert for intersecting motorbike single-tracks and passing horseback riders. The route finishes at a traditional manual wire gate, which you must carefully open to pass and securely close behind your rig. From here, you have the option to take the connecting route back toward town or make a brief 20-second transit to connect with CR 120 to run it in reverse.

Difficulty

Under standard dry conditions, BLM 125 perfectly aligns with a Level 2 rating. While the initial stretches are easily manageable for high-clearance 2WD vehicles, the second half of the trail introduces larger, dried erosion ruts measuring up to 11 inches deep. Navigating these sections will occasionally tilt your vehicle to a 15-to-20-degree off-camber angle, requiring slow momentum and sufficient ground clearance to prevent undercarriage scraping. Like all routes in this area, a severe weather warning is paramount: absolutely do not enter this trail if it has rained recently or if precipitation is forecasted. The local dirt quickly transforms into a thick, horrendous mud that is guaranteed to strand even the most heavily modified 4x4 trucks.
