Trail Overview

Aspen Ridge is a well-known tourist trail, but this is not the tourist version. This version keeps the namesake Aspen Ridge in the middle of the run but adds a road with an interesting hill on the south end. We also recommend connecting to Bald Mountain on the north end. This Jeep trail is best known for being beautiful when aspen is changing color in the fall, but it is nice to visit any time of the year.Spring and early summer are alive with the yellow of a golden pea. Midsummer is still beautiful, if not as colorful.Aspen Ridge itself is in the middle of this trail. The north section before turning toward Bald Mountain has open rangeland. The abandoned quarry in the south part is full of water.Bald Mountain has nice views across the Arkansas Valley. If you are lucky you may see bighorn up there.

Aspen ridge is easy, as well as mt baldy recommended on this route. The last 1/4 of the trail takes you through Dead Horse Gulch which in my opinion is not a 4. Other platforms rate it a “difficult” trail. I would go continue on 175 vs left on 181 if you want an easy day. Went through with some scraping on dead horse on a 3” lift and 33’s.
