Trail Overview

Aspen Ridge is a well-known tourist trail, but this is not the tourist version. This version keeps the namesake Aspen Ridge in the middle of the run but adds a road with an interesting hill on the south end. We also recommend connecting to Bald Mountain on the north end. This Jeep trail is best known for being beautiful when aspen is changing color in the fall, but it is nice to visit any time of the year.Spring and early summer are alive with the yellow of a golden pea. Midsummer is still beautiful, if not as colorful.Aspen Ridge itself is in the middle of this trail. The north section before turning toward Bald Mountain has open rangeland. The abandoned quarry in the south part is full of water.Bald Mountain has nice views across the Arkansas Valley. If you are lucky you may see bighorn up there.

Southern (Dead Horse Gulch) section is not to be underestimated. I had zero scraping or dragging, but that took careful placement and spotting. The rest of the trail was great. Lots of narrow shelf trails, a couple sharp switchbacks, but a great time. Took about 4.5hrs to run one end to the other with a few breaks and overlook stops. Great scenery, challenging offroad driving without destroying your rig.

Broken truck was gone trail was amazing! The dead horse gulch section at the start of the southern end in Salida is definitely more than a 4 rating. I had no problem, but some good clearance In definitely needed

Truck has been moved. Keep in mind, the 2-3 miles close to Salida (dead horse gulch) is way higher than 4/10 difficulty. Not Ideal for large/wide 4X4 vehicles.
