Trail Overview
Woodward Peak (FS 32E53) departs from the west side of Evans Flat Campground and pushes into Sequoia National Forest, staying narrow and enclosed for much of its length before the southern half opens up its canopy to offer glimpses of distant mountains. A shelf road section runs through the middle portion of the trail, briefly widening the exposure before the forest closes back in. The dense forest canopy dominates the northern half of the trail, with low-hanging branches a constant consideration for taller vehicles. The southern half rewards with more open views and a lighter feel as the trees thin out.

Difficulty
Woodward Peak will test your suspension system throughout. The trail throws a full menu of obstacles, including ruts, off-camber sections, drainage humps, roots, whoops, low-hanging branches, and rocks, all under 18 inches. The single vehicle width leaves little room for error. Some dips along the route can get lively for long wheelbase vehicles, requiring careful line selection. Conditions deteriorate significantly when wet, with the hard-packed dirt turning muddy and amplifying every obstacle on the trail. High clearance 4x4 is highly recommended, especially in wet conditions.
