Trail Overview

Short, steep, and straight to the point, Tijuana Camp (FS 5S041) is a quick spur trail that serves as a fun traction test for your rig. Branching off the main forest road network, this route wastes no time getting vertical. It is defined by a "steep, punchy climb" that gains over 500 feet of elevation in just under three-quarters of a mile. The tread is a loose mixture of gravel and natural dirt, which can make finding grip a challenge on the steeper grades. The trail winds up the hillside through a dense forest canopy before abruptly terminating. Important Warning: The trail dead-ends at a private property boundary. This is not a through-road. The boundary is clearly marked with "No Trespassing" signs and is monitored by active game cameras. Please be a respectful Trail Gnomie: spin your tires on the climb, enjoy the woods, but turn around at the signs, and do not encroach on private land.

Difficulty

While this trail is short and lacks massive boulders, it earns a Rating 3 due to the sustained steepness of the climb, combined with a loose surface. The mix of gravel and dirt significantly reduces traction, meaning 2WD vehicles will likely spin out and struggle to maintain momentum. 4WD High or Low is strongly recommended to climb the grade without tearing up the trail or overheating your transmission. It's a "punchy" ascent that requires a bit more capability and throttle control than a standard Rating 2 fire road.
