Trail Overview

Sheep Tank (FS 1S95) is a 2-mile point-to-point trail starting at Highway 120 and ending at Mono Craters (FS 1S07). The trail climbs almost 500 feet over pumice and sand, running one vehicle wide through a sparse pine forest lined with sagebrush and other flora. The sand gets deeper as you move away from Highway 120. The trail offers spectacular views of Mono Lake and Crater Mountain. Some pine trees have overgrown branches that may leave Sierra pinstripes on tall vehicles. Seasonal fire restrictions apply. The trail is named after a large water tank used for grazing cattle and other animals on the south side.
