Trail Overview

This 5-mile ATV loop in the Moccasin Gap Trail system is a fun and scenic ride with a couple of notable moderate challenges. The trail has unavoidable mud puddles stretching the width of the trail that can appear suddenly, and water streaming through the path, so prepare to get your boots wet. Watch out for large, wide ruts, sudden dips, and rollers. The trail is often littered with small debris like sticks, loose rocks, downed tree branches, and logs at odd angles. Plus, you might need to duck for low branches in this forest of maples and oaks, and pines. It's a jarring ride over some of the sections full of roots and loose slab rock that could ping you around if not paying attention. There are several stream crossings, some tiny, and others deeper, but often beautiful, clear blue water. There is a notable steep descent with loose rocks and sharper curves on the west end (when riding counterclockwise). The southern half of the loop has a couple of notable rock obstacles and bigger boulders in the trail.
