Trail Overview

On this trail, there's very deep sand, sections of rough river rock and gravel, and some narrow points requiring caution. There are also numerous long flat sandy stretches where you can really pick up some speed. Watch for dips in the sand created by the water current that can be hard to see until you are on top of them. Hitting these at significant speeds could cause a loss of control or vehicle damage.

Difficulty

4x4 is required except for very lightweight machines--even then, strongly encouraged. The sand is multiple feet deep and this is also a flash flood area, so be mindful of local weather. Entering and exiting the wash is very steep and on very uneven ground. Vehicles have very frequently required towing to get out of the sand, and a few have been washed downstream over the years during flash floods.

Access Description

You can enter from the I-8 exit on Vekol Valley Road, proceed to the end of the pavement, and turn right. The wash entrance will be on the right only a few hundred feet after the pavement ends. You can also enter from the Desert Valley BLM Inlet trail; be aware of a steep and off-camber drop-in from this trail.
