Trail Overview

Trail Sa1071 is a challenging point-to-point route that eventually ends at Sa1071A. This trail is rough, fully natural, and extremely overgrown--it appears it hasn't seen regular travel in many years. Expect full-size trees, rocks, and thick shrubs blocking portions of the trail. In many places, the route fades completely, requiring careful navigation to stay on track. There are multiple wash crossings with sandy bottoms and soft sides, creating additional obstacles. You'll encounter natural barriers and uneven terrain throughout. 4WD and high clearance are required. The trail offers beautiful views of Mount Graham, but there are no clearings or suitable picnic spots along the route. At one point, you cross over Sa1073. Initially, it may seem like this section sees more traffic, but you'll quickly realize it can be just as difficult, if not worse than the western portion of the trail. Near the end, you must cross one final wash and continue approximately 1/4 mile before reaching the finish at Sa1071A. This trail is great for practicing map reading and route-finding skills, but it can be hard to navigate and requires patience and careful driving. Expect heavy overgrowth, hidden obstacles, and frequent loss of visible trail. Not recommended in wet conditions due to sandy washes and soft terrain.
