Trail Overview

The Trail to Robson's Mining World is about as exciting as a drive down a parking lot--wide, easy to navigate, and no obstacles to ruin your day. But don't get too comfortable, because while the trail may seem simple at first, erosion pops up to remind you that nature still has a hand in things. With varying surfaces throughout, you'll experience a mix of textures, though none of them are likely to make you break a sweat. The real appeal? It accesses other trails, which is convenient if you realize halfway through that this ride isn't quite as thrilling as you'd hoped. If you're looking for something straightforward that won't challenge you too much, this is your ticket to an easy day out--before heading off to something more interesting, of course.

Difficulty

This trail appears to be at least semi-maintained and is the access point to Robsons Mining World, a tourist-type experience showcasing the history of mining in Arizona's territory. There are no obstacles, but also no cell service, so you'll want to have offline maps downloaded.

History

Robson's Mining World was originally opened by the Westley Rush Family in 1917 as the Gold Leaf Mine. Ned Creighton acquired the mine in 1924. He renamed the mine the "Nellie Meda" in honor of the two Rush daughters. The mine operated until 1942 when the Federal Government closed all gold mines with the onset of World War II. The mine's engineer, Harold Mason became the caretaker and eventual owner of the Nellie Meda. Charles Robson purchased the mine in 1979 upon the death of Harold Mason. In the mid-1980s Charles and Jeri Robson embarked on the restoration of the mining property. They purchased a large portion of the mining equipment from Wilbur Johnson, a mining engineer who had worked many of Arizona's old mining camps. Historical buildings were brought in and others were built to house the extensive collection of artifacts. Robson's Mining World opened to the public on January 19, 1992.
