Trail Overview

Red Butte Road is a pretty single-lane dirt road that leads to the trailhead of Red Butte. For travelers looking forward to seeing the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, this is the feature that lets you know you're almost there. From a two-lane dirt road entry, Red Butte Road quickly whittles down to a one-lane road, skirted by scrub brush. While short, Red Butte Road weaves its way on the Coconino Plateau through groves of Juniper and Pinon Pine, to wide-open prairies of undergrowth and scrub brush.

Difficulty

Unmaintained gravel road.
