HM 127

Trail Overview

HM127 begins just over half a mile from the Love's Travel Stop off Highway 95, entering the route from the wide-open desert flats. The trail quickly shifts from partially paved remnants to a mix of hard-packed sand and gravel, interspersed with classic desert vegetation like creosote bushes and scattered trees. As you travel, the terrain transitions into gently rolling hills with scenic views of surrounding mountains before descending into a wash -- be cautious here, as the drop into the wash can be abrupt. Inside the wash, expect deeper sand and gravel sections, as well as some washboarding in flatter stretches. This route falls under BLM land and offers opportunities for dispersed camping with a 14-day stay limit. Keep an eye out for designated spots along the way. The trail ends unexpectedly at the boundary of a new RV Oasis development, Riverbound. From here, you'll need to take the bypass route to reconnect with the highway or link up with the Yellowstone Trail to the west for continued off-road exploration.

Difficulty

While most of the route is manageable for high-clearance 2WD vehicles in dry conditions, the drops into the wash, areas of deep gravel, and washboard sections elevate the challenge. 4WD is recommended for best traction, especially after recent rains or during peak desert heat when sand softens. Less experienced drivers should approach the wash with caution.
