Trail Overview
Forest Service Road 229E connects Stoneman Lake Road with FS 229 which are both guided trails. The Southeast part of this trail starts off as an easy-going dirt trail that quickly turns into a rocky and mild climb with a gentle grade. This uphill rocky section consists of rock gardens and loose rocks. Once you are over this small climb, the trail turns back to a dirt surface. There are a few small erosion ruts in the middle of the trail in this area. You will then come to a gate you must open and close. After the gate, the trail starts to get more rocky with handfuls of rock gardens peppering the trail's surface. The trail will start traversing to the North. In this section, you will start to climb another hill which has some flat rock outcroppings you must travel over. From there, you will travel over a dry wash which has another gate you must open and close. Once you are past the gate, there is one last small hill climb with loose rocks all over the trail. The trail then ends at the junction with Stoneman Lake Road.
