FS 1713/FS 1399

Trail Overview

This relatively easy two-track circles east around Haystack Butte, offering beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and wide open desert landscape. The surface is mostly smooth dirt with a few dips and minor washouts, but nothing technical. There is one small pinch point with a cholla on one side and a washout on the other, along with a few stretches of tight brush that narrow the corridor. Expect big sections of cholla forest and plenty of wildlife sightings, including lots of jackrabbits darting across the desert.

Difficulty

This trail earns its easy rating due to the mostly smooth dirt surface and minimal obstacles. Drivers should simply be mindful of occasional washouts and tight brush sections, especially at the pinch point, where careful tire placement helps avoid both cholla and erosion edges.
