Trail Overview
Williamson Tank Trail is a scenic off-road trail that begins on private land, meandering through rolling grasslands and past a quiet farmstead, where travelers may receive a friendly wave. The trail starts as a single-track route with a mostly smooth surface, though occasional bumps and rocky patches add some variety to the drive. After passing through the first gate, the road begins to deteriorate as it climbs toward an area where cattle feed. Gates should be closed behind you when passing through. Beyond another gate and a fork in the trail, the surface becomes rougher but remains a manageable and enjoyable drive. The route crosses several washes before leading to a steep, off-camber ascent that, while not overly technical, requires careful navigation. Descending from this section, the trail drops into another wash before reaching a long, steep, and rocky climb with off-camber sections. This portion is significantly more challenging and should only be attempted by highly capable off-road vehicles with experienced drivers. Along the route, a few dispersed campsites provide an opportunity for a remote overnight stay, though there are no amenities such as trash disposal or water supply. Cell service is also limited, so travelers should plan accordingly.
