Trail Overview
FR 2623 starts as a dirt two-track that heads west from Highway 64 between Valle, AZ, and Grand Canyon National Park. Lined by sagebrush and undergrowth, there are no obstacles on this trail. This area is famous for its elk, and you'll find no shortage of evidence of the animals around, as it is popular for both hunting and shed hunting. Interesting rock formations abound along this trail as you head up into the trees of the Kaibab National Forest. As is typical with Arizona trails, the up-and-down hills are rockier than the trail itself. This trail continues through the trees, but this particular expedition was skunked by a tree across the trail, and no clean way around it.
