Trail Overview
This is a very scenic drive that will take you by the Thode Cabin and the old Whiting Saw Mill that both date back to the early 1900's as well as a small side trail that will take the Greens Peak lookout tower. About half of the trail is a well-maintained Forest Service Road, while the other half is a single lane rocky road that does have some washouts and other obstacles. There are many small offshoot roads to explore, as well as some great camping spots. You will want to keep a lookout for the abundant wildlife in the area, which mostly includes deer, elk, and turkey, but an occasional bear might also be seen. About all that is left of the Thode cabin is broken glass and an old bed frame, but you can still explore the cabin, a nearby barn, and a spring that's still flowing. The saw mill only has a few remnants of the foundation, and if you aren't looking closely, you might just miss it.
