Trail Overview

FH 1048 is an overgrown out-and-back trail with a packed gravel surface. It's a gentle ridge-top-to-ridge-top drive offering stunning panoramic views. From the high points, you'll see Emery and Geronimo, Arizona, Mount Graham to the southeast, and Cedar Mountain to the southwest. The trail is lined with desert creosote and plenty of ocotillo. Keep an eye out for wildlife--a red-tailed hawk has been spotted in the area. Also watch for a unique sight: a single fan saguaro, standing alone at about three feet tall. Blink and you will miss it. The road is not technical, but it does require high clearance. 2WD vehicles are generally fine in dry conditions. Expect tight brush--pinstripes along the sides and even some light undercarriage scraping are likely.
