Trail Overview

EC1142 immediately presents a challenge with a 100 foot steep and long hill climb right from the start. Be careful at the top as the trail takes an immediate right. There is a drop off if you continue straight, making this a critical navigation point. After conquering the initial climb, the trail follows a ridge line offering dramatic 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains and canyons spread out below. The surface is hard pack sand with gravel and rocks embedded, creating a dusty trail that kicks up fine particles. You'll encounter small ruts along the ridge line. On the west end, there is another steep hill with deep ruts and off camber sections over 18 inches that presents a serious technical challenge requiring skilled driving and possibly spotting.
