Trail Overview
This out-and-back trail starts off as a very wide graded route with packed sand that provides comfortable navigation at first. The trail quickly starts climbing, gaining over 300 feet in under 4 miles as you ascend toward the mountains. Although mostly smooth, there are ruts due to water runoff throughout the trail, so use caution with speed to avoid jarring impacts. The area's vegetation is pretty sparse, with a few desert brushes and lots of seasonal desert flowers that add color when blooming. The views of the Trigo Mountains get better as you go further, making the climb worthwhile. There are lots of areas to disperse camp nearby where you can set up and enjoy the scenery. At 2.5 miles in, the trail gets narrow to one vehicle wide with lots more rocks changing the character significantly. Near the end, you'll encounter some ruts in the road due to water runoff and off-camber sections. Be on the lookout for wild burros throughout.

Difficulty
This is an easy trail for the first 2.5 miles, with the wide, graded surface making navigation simple. After 2.5 miles, the narrow width with more rocks and the ruts and off-camber sections near the end increase attention requirements but remain manageable. The climb is steady but not technical. Watch your speed over the water runoff ruts throughout.
