Trail Overview

This is a short but moderate spur that connects 482 and 483, which are two of the longer trails in the trail system. The mile-long route is constantly full of loose baby head-sized rocks, with short climbs and descents. The trail winds across the desert hilltops, past ocotillos and mesquite trees. The trail has frequent ruts and very chunky rock surfaces, including some small rock ledges. The constant rocks will be a good test of your endurance. The trail has some tighter turns and mild switchbacks through the loose terrain as it winds up a hillside and back down. Most of it is gradual, but there are some steeper spots that, combined with the loose terrain, make it less ideal for beginner riders.

Access Description

There is an official staging area for the Red Spring Pass dirt bike trails four miles into Sardina Canyon Road (684). Enter Sardina Canyon at the Hunter Access Point from the Interstate 19 Frontage Road (exit the highway at Chavez Siding Road). The staging area is a large dirt parking lot with space for several vehicles and small trailers. There is a map and information kiosk, and two picnic tables. Overnight camping is not allowed in this lot; however, there are numerous dispersed camping spots along Sardina Canyon Road. The road in is very slow going and bumpy, with lots of loose rock and ruts, ideal mostly for high clearance 4x4 vehicles. This area gets used for illegal immigration - use caution and expect to see border patrol in the area.
