Cypress Tree - FS 339

Trail Overview

FS 339 is a generally well-maintained forest service road running through the heart of the Conecuh National Forest in southern Alabama. As one of the main thoroughfares through the forest, it offers scenic views of longleaf pine stands, open understory habitat, and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities. This mostly sand and pine-needle twin track is typically in good condition, though drivers should expect occasional ruts, stretches of soft sugar sand, and mud holes after heavy rain. Conditions can vary seasonally, especially in low-lying areas. With numerous access points along the route, Cypress Tree serves as a gateway to additional side roads and backcountry trails, making it a popular choice for dispersed camping and quiet scenic drives.

Deep sand sections. These can bog down 2WD vehicles quickly. Mud holes - can be deep, and after rain, the clay soil becomes extremely slick. Deep ruts, Water crossings & puddles - low spots often stay flooded for long periods.
