Trail Overview

Trail 501 is a versatile two-way trail, off of Landing Zone 8, offering moderate challenges and serving as a connector to Switchback and many others. Its varied terrain includes rocky sections, a steep hill climb, and occasional water-logged areas, making it suitable for off-roaders seeking a mix of accessibility and technical driving.

Difficulty

Trail 501 starts with an easy section but becomes progressively more challenging. It crosses the Rock Garden drainage trail (also known as Timbuk 1) and navigates over medium-sized rocks. The trail then climbs a steep 20-degree hill where 4WD low is recommended, especially in wet conditions, as slick surfaces and rutting can amplify the difficulty. Further along, loose rocks and breakover points can pose challenges for longer-wheelbase vehicles, with standing water occasionally adding to the difficulty after rain.
