Trail Overview
This trail takes you from the coastal town of Punta Colonet at an elevation of 348 feet (also known as Ejido, Mexico) up into the mountains to the El Coyote Ranch, at an elevation of 2,903 feet. It starts as a typical sandy wide road. Then it travels through farmland, sandy washes, into the high desert, and up to the mountains through various passes. Closer to the coast, there are many river crossings. The deepest is around 18 inches. The trail is sandy, rocky, rough, smooth, bouncy, and just a lot of fun. There is only one challenging section consisting of a few rock gardens and off-camber areas. High-clearance 4x4 is required. This is a 38-mile trail. Except for the occasional farm, there is little until the El Coyote Ranch--plan smart. The scenery is beautiful.
