Trail Overview

El Circuito de Montana Desconocido de San Felipe, also known as The unknown San Felipe Mountain Loop, is a sandy off-road trail that wraps around the base of an unnamed mountain just outside San Felipe. Stretching from Virtual Check Points 12 to 21 of the recent Baja 250, the route offers a mix of rugged terrain, striking mountain views, and easy access to dispersed camping. Starting from the southwest entrance, drivers are immediately met with deep ruts that can pose clearance challenges, especially for stock or lower-clearance rigs. The trail quickly settles into a mix of soft sand and subtle elevation changes as it skirts the mountain's perimeter. While the mountain itself remains unnamed, it dominates the landscape, offering dramatic backdrops and opportunities for stunning sunrise and sunset vistas. Despite its scenic nature, the trail passes through an area often used for illegal dumping, a reminder of its proximity to San Felipe. Still, there are many spots along the way to pull off for dispersed camping, making it a convenient overland option close to town. There are many spur trails, and it can be easy to get lost.
