Trail Overview

The trail begins where the pavement ends in the town of Conquista Agraria, starting as a wide, two-lane path before quickly transitioning into a washboard dirt road. Shortly after leaving town, you'll pass a newly constructed hotel--partially open but still under development--before reaching a smoother powerline road with occasional sandy patches. This straight stretch leads toward the coast, where the terrain shifts as you approach a prominent hilltop structure near the trail's junction with a coastal route. Here, the road presents steep climbs and rugged, rocky sections that may require 4WD or lower tire pressure, and careful wheel placement. Each ascent reveals breathtaking campsites with expansive ocean views and solid rocky ground, while the route continues to rise and fall in 50-foot increments before reaching an arroyo crossing with deep sand and ruts--potentially challenging for 2WD vehicles. Beyond this section, the trail winds past popular surfside campsites and a small lookout tower known as "The Lighthouse" before ultimately merging with El Faro Road.

Difficulty

While 2WD vehicles can navigate this route, there are a few challenging sections with deep ruts, sandy stretches, and steep climbs that could pose a problem without an experienced off-road driver and precise wheel placement, so 4WD is recommended. Under dry conditions, the trail is generally manageable, but caution is advised at arroyo crossings, which should always be inspected after storms or during wet weather.
