Baja Land Coastal

Trail Overview

This route branches south off the Reforma Agraria trail, descending toward the coastline along a less-traveled path with deep sand sections. If approaching from the north, you'll quickly notice the difference in terrain. The trail dips in and out of several arroyos, with one section near a ranch offering two options: a higher route closer to the property or a lower route running through a short, eighth-mile mini canyon. As you continue winding toward the coast, you'll pass a large graded area with a white building on the left--about the point where ocean views first come into sight. From here, the descent steepens slightly before reaching a fork: turning right follows the coastline north while heading left leads south for about three miles before dead-ending. Continuing right, the trail meanders through mangroves, passes access points to pristine beaches, and eventually skirts several structures known as Baja Land. Further along, connecting to other onX trails provides access to excellent camping spots and breathtaking coastal scenery.

Difficulty

While it is possible to navigate this route in a 2WD vehicle, it is not recommended. Several sections have deep sand or tricky terrain where a single misstep could easily leave you stuck, and the area is remote with little traffic or available assistance. However, with properly deflated tires and a capable 4WD vehicle, the route is straightforward and generally easy to manage in dry conditions.
