Walnut Mountain Road is an easy gravel route that winds through a mix of rural and forested terrain, including sections of the Cherokee National Forest. The road is generally wide enough for two vehicles and follows gentle grades, making it accessible for most drivers under normal conditions. Along the route, drivers will pass a Christmas tree farm and areas of working land, adding to the rural character of the drive. The surface is typical gravel but can show signs of wear from weather and use. Potholes are present in spots, along with soft ruts forming along the edges of the road. Occasional rocks may protrude through the surface, and minor washouts can develop after rain. While these features require some attention, they do not create significant difficulty.
