Trail Overview

A beautiful and leisurely stroll through a small section of the Eastern side of the Cherokee Nation. This route is approximately 58 miles long and can be completed in 2-5 hours, depending on the speed of travel and any stops along the way. The route is all county roads and can be completed by any 4x4 and most 2WD. Care should be given during inclement weather (especially heavy rain) as flooding and road closures can occur. There are multiple scenic areas for photography and sightseeing along this route. If planning occurs in the summer months, a float trip down the Illinois River is an absolute must! If planned during the fall, check the fall foliage calendar to ensure the best colors!

Dogwoods in bloom and lots of wildlife. Trail was in great condition and water crossings were very low. Nice easy drive!

Could have been called Dogwood Trail, they were in bloom all along the trail and beautiful. Very pleasant drive only came across a few spots that might require 4 wheel drive, water crossings were low (only a couple of days after rain storm).

The trail was in good condition and really easy, definitely could have done it in a minivan. I spent the day with my grandson, driving, fishing and hiking in a beautiful part of Oklahoma.

Beautiful trail. Lots of variety with water crossings, riverside driving, a couple of uphill and downhill portions with some loose larger gravel. There are several longer connecting highway segments but it was never busy at all. 2 hours would be a very quick drive through this area. Not a lot of spaces to stop, especially in the first 1/2 as it is lined by private property. Overall really enjoyed this ride and plan to do it again.
