Slade Canyon

Very easy. We went from Stockton Flats, all the way up to Gobbler’s Knob, and the down the other side to Lone Pine canyon. I was in a lifted 4x4 offroad Tacoma. My buddy was in a 1960’s 2wd Chevy c20. We were both overloaded with gear. Every part of this trail is very very easy. No difficulty whatsoever. A teeny tiny bit of obstacles if you were in low clearance vehicles, but if you were a savvy driver, you could get a civic up this trail. I would call this a “1” in any high clearance vehicles even 2wd or subarus. And maybe a 3-4 if you have a low car or no experience or just a dumb driver. The hardest part would be passing on the narrow shelf roads… but we never had to pass anyone in those sections. Wet or icey would change things, but on a good weather day. NO PROBLEM.

Short and easy trail. Dry and not too dusty. Some rocks you have to watch out for but otherwise I wouldn’t hesitate to do this again in a regular stock FWD low ground clearance vehicle. That said the Stockton Flats that we went on to get to the base is a bit rougher so be extra careful there if you don’t have ground clearance
