White Car Trail

Trail Overview

The White Car Trail is named for a distinctive abandoned vehicle near its end. It connects Goose Creek Road to the far eastern edge of the Fundy Footpath, just outside Fundy National Park. This well-compacted gravel road is two vehicles wide for most of its length. The final 2 kilometers narrow to a single-vehicle width, though some passing spots are available. Cellular service is generally unavailable or very weak for most of the trail.

History

The Fundy Footpath is a 41-kilometer-long rugged hiking trail (~25 miles), and stretches from a place called Big Salmon River all the way to Fundy National Park (you can extend the hike into Fundy National Park if you're looking for a longer journey). This isn't just a walk in the park! Although the highest elevation is about 300 metres (~1,000 feet), the trail is a constant up and down into river valleys and ravines for a total elevation gain of approximately 3,000 metres (~10,000 feet). There are several river crossings, two of which are tricky because they're tidal; they fill up with ocean water when the tide is high, so you can only cross them safely when the tide is low. So, if you're planning to hike the Fundy Footpath, you really need to know when those low tides are to cross those rivers (although you can now by-pass the Goose River crossing by following a path up the river and into Fundy National Park)!
