Rock Lake Road

Trail Overview

From the north, this trail starts as a well-graded, washboarded, wide gravel road. The well-maintained road turns and heads into the private Rock Lake Campground/summer camp; the trail continues straight into a section dense with trees and riddled with potholes. The darker forest eventually gives way to more open meadows and outstanding views of the mountains to the north and east. On the east of the trail, you'll come across the dispersed camping area around Rock Creek, where grazing cows may visit your camp in the morning, and the creek peacefully bubbles by. Beyond the camping area, the trail continues south through more potholes and puddles, depending on the time of year. You may see deer and grouse along the way. Cell Service: Cell service in the Lake Koocanusa area can be intermittent. To ensure you have consistent map coverage, please download your offline maps before exploring the area. Crown Land Camping: Canadian Crown Land is open to Canadian residents for free camping. Out-of-country visitors, particularly from the US, will need to obtain a camping permit from the nearest FrontCounter BC office in Cranbrook before camping on Crown land if camping outside of the paid campsite.

Difficulty

Expect a mix of well-graded gravel, potholes, and puddles. This area is not necessarily maintained after snow. The trail narrows to being mostly one vehicle wide.
