Moore Lake Main

Trail Overview

This 13-kilometer (8-mile) out-and-back trail begins at West Main, as access from Topknot Main is now impassable. It is a single-vehicle-width dirt and gravel track that steadily grows narrower and more overgrown the farther you progress. The route passes near Moore Lake, but lake access is difficult, as there is no clear trail from the road. Around the 6 Kilometer mark, the original Moore Lake spur ends due to overgrowth. However, the main trail continues deeper and up into an old clear-cut forest, where you'll find expansive views of surrounding valleys and hills. Vegetation is thick along much of the trail, with tree branches frequently brushing against vehicles, especially wider or taller rigs. Overgrowth exists both on the sides and overhead, so expect some pin-striping. The trail remains relatively smooth throughout, with only occasional potholes. There are also numerous spur trails in the final clear-cut area. Many of these are now partially reclaimed by the forest, making them more exploratory in nature and best suited for narrow vehicles or on-foot scouting. Signs of black bears are common along the route--please plan and travel accordingly.

Difficulty

Rated a 2 due to dense overgrowth, limited width, and restricted turnaround spots. The trail is otherwise mild in terrain, with only light potholes and manageable elevation gain. Suitable for narrow 4WD vehicles comfortable with some brushing and tight conditions.
