Trail Overview

Grotto Falls Trail winds through and up the coastal mountains of British Columbia, ending at a lovely waterfall swimming hole. The majority of the trail follows a forest service road, with the final few kilometers being the roughest part of the journey. The forest service road winds through the beautiful coastal rainforest, though the road is not well-maintained and often has large, unavoidable potholes scattered throughout. Once you turn off the main forest service road, you'll encounter some off-camber, tight sections that can be tricky for full-size rigs to navigate. Mid-size and smaller rigs typically have no trouble. Tight trees also limit line choice through many sections, so high clearance is required. Traveling this trail during the wet season or in the spring can make traversing the final section along the riverbed more difficult. During the summer, water levels are often lower, making it easier to navigate the trail. However, large rocks in the water make line choice important while crossing the river. The waterfall swimming hole at the end is a great place to swim and cool off on hot days. The water is always cold.

Difficulty

This trail features tight off-camber sections to navigate, and dust and loose gravel can make certain areas tricky to navigate. The final stretch of the trail winds up a river bed with multiple water crossings, no more than a foot deep during dry seasons, but can be much deeper during wet season or early spring. The rocky river bed makes for an exciting trail to navigate; line choice is key for many rings with no lift or limited ride height. Tight trees and overgrown bushes also make some sections harder to navigate for bigger rigs.
