This route offers a lightly traveled run through the heart of the Koocanusa Recreation Management Area (KRMA). Experience the beauty of grassy two-track trails and navigate through dense forest sections. This area teems with wildlife; keep an eye out for deer and the occasional cattle grazing along the route. If you encounter any gates along the trail, please ensure they are closed, as indicated by signage, unless it is out of season, in which case leave them as you found them. Be prepared to clear downed trees, especially after storms or during the spring thaw. Also, be vigilant for cross-traffic from the numerous single-track trails that intersect this route. This area is a rider's dream, boasting miles and miles of trails and a wealth of scenic views. Exercise caution and avoid stopping in tall, dry grass, particularly during the spring, as this can pose a fire hazard. Be aware of wildlife, including deer and cattle. Leave gates as you find them (closed unless otherwise indicated). Be prepared to clear downed trees on this trail. Be aware of and adhere to all regulations within the Koocanusa Recreation Management Area. Cell service in the Lake Koocanusa area can be intermittent. Difficulty

Parts of this trail are narrow with overgrown brush, low-hanging trees, and downed trees that are tight to get around in a larger vehicle. Some hills and rocky sections of the trail. Caution to full-width 4x4 vehicle interested in taking this trail.

History

This area lies within the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa (Kootenai) people, who have a deep and enduring connection to this land. More recently, the area's history has been shaped by logging and other resource extraction activities. Today, the Koocanusa Recreation Management Area (KMRA) reflects a commitment to balancing resource management with recreational opportunities, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the area's natural beauty. The KRMA was established to manage and enhance recreational opportunities in the Lake Koocanusa area while protecting natural resources. The KRMA encompasses a large area of Crown land and offers a wide range of recreational activities, including camping, hiking, boating, fishing, and off-roading. Access Description

Turn off Highway 93 at the Grasmere General Store and Liquor Store. Take Grasmere Dorr Road and turn right at Grasmere Dorr Road. From here, there are two ways to access this trail. To access it from the South end, take Dorr West Road Trail, a ways down, look for the trail head off to the right with a cattle fence and sign. To access the North end of the trail, take Dorr Cutoff Road, continue past Edwards Lake, and look for the trailhead on the left-hand side in a large grassy field.
