Trail Overview
Cowichan Main is a moderately bumpy gravel road, wide enough for two vehicles to pass comfortably in most sections. Though not technically difficult, the ride is far from smooth -- expect frequent potholes and long stretches of washboard that can rattle vehicles without properly aired-down tires. The route is flanked by dense vegetation, with towering trees and thick underbrush creating a classic Pacific Northwest forest atmosphere. In several areas, the trees arch overhead, forming striking canopy tunnels that offer dappled shade and a sense of seclusion. Scenic bridges punctuate the route, many of them offering beautiful vantage points overlooking creeks or ravines surrounded by forest. Be sure to slow down to soak in the views, and keep an eye out for cyclists, as this road is shared with bike traffic and can be popular in fair weather

Difficulty
While the road is navigable for most vehicles, the numerous potholes, washboarding, and potential for shared use with cyclists require attentive driving. Stock 4x4s or high-clearance vehicles will have no issue, but comfort levels vary depending on tire pressure and suspension setup.
