Trail Overview
This 13-mile solitary traverse offers a distinct change of pace from the wider mainlines of the Siuslaw National Forest. Connecting Highway 48A to the Popo / FS 48300 network, this route feels like a secret passage forgotten by heavy industry. The road is defined by its tight, claustrophobic single-lane width, where the surrounding coastal vegetation--likely salal, thimbleberry, and young firs--aggressively encroaches from both sides, creating a lush, green tunnel effect. The track itself features a prominent grassy spine running down the center, a telltale sign of infrequent use. While the encroaching brush limits sightlines, the roadbed beneath is solid gravel, allowing for a surprisingly steady pace if you are comfortable with the "pinstriping" risk from the overhanging branches. Occasional pullouts appear just often enough to offer relief, but this is largely a lonely, secluded drive through the deep green.

Difficulty
The technical difficulty here is low regarding traction or obstacles; the gravel base remains solid and reliable. However, the Rated 2 designation is warranted by the narrow, overgrown nature of the trail. The "grass in the center" indicates low traffic, meaning drivers must be vigilant for hidden hazards like fallen limbs or rocks concealed within the vegetation. Furthermore, the encroaching brush significantly reduces forward visibility around corners, requiring heightened situational awareness and the readiness to stop or reverse immediately if oncoming traffic appears in the tight chutes.
